One of my old high school friends gave me a call yesterday, he mentioned he was in Cape Town and it actually turned out he was quite close to the area I reside in, so we arranged to meet up after work. I had not seen him since the earlier days of high school when he migrated to England from Zimbabwe, it had actually been about 10 years. So when we met up we had a lot to catch up on, and naturally the conversation went from reminiscing about the old school days, boarding life to playing rugby in the same Under 16 team. We talked about where our other friends were and what they were doing; how some had made remarkable strides and how others seemed to be stuck in a rut-all the realities of life. It was during this conversation that something hit me!- It had been 10 years and we were talking about all these things as if they happened just yesterday! 10 years is supposed to be a long time, a lot changes over that time, but I couldn’t help but think that it really seemed like a flash of recent moments. It got me thinking that at this rate, we will soon be sitting here 10 years from now, in our mid-thirties reminiscing about the past again. Time is ruthless like that and we have all heard the old adage, “Time waits for no man“. You need to be able to get time to play on your team, as opposed to it being an opponent. The big question is, on a day to day basis, are you utilizing your time wisely? Are you doing valuable work? Are you utilizing your time in a way that will allow you to have made progress when you meet with your friends 10 years from now? Don’t just float along with the system! Sit back and ask yourself these and such other important questions. Figure out where you are and readjust to put yourself in a better position for tomorrow. We are often locked in the day to day happenings of life, yet time is sneakily just ticking away…
